How are you this afternoon?
On Saturday I came across a website full of fantastically amazing handmade goodness in the form of Handmade Monday. Here's my little contribution that I made today.
I drew the design freehand on doubled up fabric scraps. I cut out the shapes and sewed them up but left a small gap at the top. I then turned the fabric the right way round, stuffed it with plenty of padding that had a squirt of my favourite perfume and the sewed up the top. I did the same for the two ears (minus the perfume) and sewed them in to place. I sewed on odd buttons for eyes and glued on a small amount of stuffing as a little fluffy tail.
And hey presto! A lovely handmade gift for my friend's birthday. It could be used as a pin cushion or a hanging decoration for the house or even car.
Here are couple of other handmade goodies that I've been working on.
There are two things I love; birds and making pin cushions. A while ago I made some Owl pin cushions which I came across again this morning.
On Saturday my Mum started to teach me to knit. I'm great at the knit part, but find the pearl part SO confusing. Here's a sneak peak of what I've learned so far :)
What do you think? X

The little pink bunny is so cute - and so are the owls. The knitting looks like it is coming on fine! Have you any ideas what you'd like to make? If you carry on, it could be a scarf. Or lots of squares could be crocheted into a blanket?
ReplyDeleteThank you Wendy! I'm glad you can tell it's a bunny :) I'm going to make a patchwork blanket with the different scraps of wool my Mum has over. I'm learning stocking stitch this week so it'll be interesting to see how that goes! I will post an update next Monday xx
DeleteYour makes are so nice. The fabric you have used really suits them. Suddenly everything will click with your knitting and you will be wondering what the problem was!! My first knitted item was so full of holes it could have been a colindar haha.
ReplyDeleteAw thank you for saying so. The fabrics I use are scraps from old tops that I couldn't bare to throw away :) Oh I've not done too bad with my first attempt of knitting then hehe. I'm looking forward to the weekend so I can learn something new xx
DeleteI love the birds and the bunny, really cute! I can't knit - well, I used to knit dishcloth squares but never got the hang of purl either! I gave up, but good luck to you! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I cannot wait to learn more and hope I get the hang of it soon :) xx
DeleteVery cute little bunny. Good luck with the knitting. Hugs Sue x
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue! I hope you have a lovely week :) xx
DeleteI love your idea of spraying perfume on the inside! I never would have thought of that! X
ReplyDeleteI can't take full credit for it I'm afraid! I saw it on a tv programme and have used it in my little creatures ever since! :) xx
DeleteThanks for popping over to my blog and leaving a comment. Good luck with the knitting. At least with crochet you only have to deal with one stitch at a time! I thought the little pink critter in your second picture was especially cute. Look forward to seeing other bits and pieces you make in the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome Alison. Thank you also :) I love making the little owls. I'm thinking of making new templates too so we'll see how that goes! xx
DeleteThe rabbit is very cute!
ReplyDeleteYour knitting looks great. You'll soon get the hang of it. You just need to find the method of holding the yarn and needles that suits you. There are quite a few videos online that will show you American vs Continental style knitting. This might help with the purl stitch!
Thank you Sarah! I will check some videos out. I've been driving my Mum mad by going - um I've made another mistake! heehee xx
DeleteA lovely bunny, and your owls are gorgeous. Good luck with the knitting - not a great craft of mine, most of what I have knitted in the past has been 'interesting'. Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jill. Let's see what the next few weeks bring - possibly some 'interesting' pieces of knitting! :) xx
DeleteVery cute bunny!
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen :) xx
DeleteYour bunny is gorgeous! The knitting will come - it will just feel awkward to start with but stick with it Mich :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Mitch! I gave the bunny to a friend earlier and they absolutely love it! :)
DeleteI'm not a great knitter and don't do a lot of it but it will all click into place on day. :o) It's a great idea to do lots of different squares then sew them together for a larger item.
